Labor Day
Dear Pastor, Preacher, or Bible Teacher –
Today (September 7, 2020) is “Labor Day” in the United States. Many workers in the US have a holiday, intended to honor the working men and women of the country.
No matter what country you live in, I’m writing this to you as a servant of Jesus Christ – someone who labors for the Lord’s work. With that in mind, look at these familiar words from Jesus:
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)
Jesus directed His call to those who were burdened by their work, to all you who labor and are heavy laden. According to one commentator, labor implies the burdens we take upon ourselves, and heavy laden implies the burdens others put upon us.
To all those, Jesus gave this invitation: take My yoke upon you and learn from Me. When we take the yoke of Jesus, we find that it:
– Is easy and light as compared with the yoke of others.
– Is easy and light as long as I do not rebel against it.
– Has nothing to do with worries that are forbidden to us.
– Does not include the burdens we choose to add to it.
Taking the yoke of Jesus, you will find rest for your souls. This unmatchable gift – both powerful and profound – should be considered the birthright of those who come to Jesus and are His followers.
Jesus summarized this wonderful call with this assurance: My yoke is easy and My burden is light. The yoke is easy and the burden is light because He bears it with us. Borne alone, it might be unbearable; but with Jesus it can be easy and light.
There is still a yoke to bear and burden to carry. Yet with and in Jesus, they are easy and light. If your yoke is hard and your burden is heavy, ask yourself:
Is the yoke and burden of Jesus? Or, is it really from myself or other people?
Am I really letting Jesus bear the weight of this yoke with me?
Dear brother or sister, keep on plowing – just make sure you do it with the yoke of Jesus, and let Him bear the weight of the yoke with you.

Die Würfel werfen
Und sie beteten und sprachen: Herr, du Kenner aller Herzen, zeige an, welchen von diesen beiden du erwählt hast, das Los dieses Dienstes und Apostelamtes zu empfangen, von dem Judas abgewichen ist, um hinzugehen an seinen eigenen Ort! Und sie warfen das Los über sie, und das Los fiel auf Matthias, und er wurde zu den elf Aposteln hinzugezählt. (Apostelgeschichte 1,24-26)
So wie die Bibel davon erzählt, hatten die Jünger verstanden, dass sie jemanden finden mussten, der den Platz des verstorbenen und in Ungnade gefallenen Judas einnehmen sollte. So wie es in Psalm 109,8 steht: „sein Amt empfange ein anderer.“
Doch wie sollten sie jemanden als 11. Apostel auswählen? Die Apostel taten das Richtige. Sie waren Gott gehorsam. Sie suchten nach Gottes Willen in der Schrift. Sie gebrauchten ihren Verstand. Und zu all dembeteten sie (Apostelgeschichte 1,24). Das war nicht schwer für sie, weil sie das schon kannten. Wahrscheinlich erinnerten sie sich daran, wie Jesus gebetet hatte, bevor Er die Jünger auswählte (Lukas 6,12-13).
Dann taten sie etwas Ungewöhnliches: sie warfen das Los. Meistens warf man dafür Würfel oder zog Strohhalme. Viele haben diese Methode in Frage gestellt – es scheint nicht geistlich zu sein, wenn man würfelt, um Gottes Willen herauszufinden.
Doch ich glaube, als sie das Los warfen, verliessen sie sich auf Gott. Auch wenn sie noch nicht mit dem Heiligen Geist erfüllt waren, wollten sie trotzdem eine Methode wählen, bei der sie sich auf Gott verlassen mussten. Vielleicht dachten sie sich dabei an Sprüche 16,33: Im Gewandbausch wird das Los geworfen, aber jeder seiner Entscheide kommt von dem Herrn.
Einige bestehen darauf, dass Matthias die falsche Wahl war und der Gebrauch von Losen bei der Entscheidungsfindung falsch war. Sie meinen, dass Gott wohl eher Paulus erwählt hätte, wenn das Amt frei geblieben wäre. Doch wir müssen das Zeugnis der Schrift respektieren. Gott wollte nicht, dass das Amt frei blieb. Wenn es frei geblieben wäre, hätte es nach einem Sieg für Satan ausgesehen. Jesus hatte 12 erwählt, doch einer versagte. Darum hätte Satan Jesus Wunsch nach 12 Aposteln besiegt.
Paulus zählte sich selbst zu den Aposteln, aber als einen von unzeitiger Geburt (1. Korinther 15,8). Paulus stand der Wahl des Matthias also nicht entgegen.
Zu Losen mag nicht der beste Weg sein, um Gottes Willen zu ergründen, doch es ist besser, als das, was viele Christen heute tun, wenn sie große Entscheidunden treffen müssen:

sie verlassen sich auf ihre Emotionen
-
sie verlassen sich auf die Umstände
-
sie verlassen sich auf Gefühle
-
sie verlassen sich auf ihre fleischlichen Begierden
Es wäre besser zu würfeln und Gott zu vertrauen, dass das Ergebnis Seinem Willen entspricht!
Matthias wurde letzten Endes zu den elf Aposteln hinzugezählt. Ich glaube, dass Gott sie zu dieser Entscheidung führte, und Er wird auch uns führen, wenn wir Ihm gehorchen, die Schrift lesen, beten und uns auf Ihn verlassen. Tue das heute!
Probando la suerte
Y orando, dijeron: Tú, Señor, que conoces los corazones de todos, muestra cuál de estos dos has escogido, para que tome la parte de este ministerio y apostolado, de que cayó Judas por transgresión, para irse a su propio lugar.
Y les echaron suertes, y la suerte cayó sobre Matías; y fue contado con los once apóstoles. (Hechos 1:24-26)
Después de pensar acerca de lo que la Biblia decía, los discípulos entendían que debían elegir a alguien que tomara el lugar del Judas muerto y deshonrado. Como dice en Salmo 109:8, otro debe tomar el oficio de Judas.
¿Cómo deberían elegir al que sería el duodécimo apóstol? Los discípulos hicieron las cosas correctas. Estaban en un lugar de obediencia a Dios. Buscaron la voluntad de Dios en las Escrituras. Usaron algo del sentido común. Además, también oraron (Hechos 1:24). Para ellos era fácil orar porque ya lo estaban haciendo (Hechos 1:14). Probablemente se recordaron de los tiempos cuando Jesús oró antes de escoger a los doce discípulos (Lucas 6:12-13).
Luego, hicieron algo un poco inusual: echaron suertes. Esto básicamente era tirar dados para obtener la respuesta. Muchos han cuestionado este método; no parece espiritual decidir sobre la voluntad de Dios tirando dados.
Sin embargo, pienso que cuando echaron suertes, realmente confiaron en Dios. Aunque todavía no habían sido llenos del Espíritu Santo como pronto lo estarían, todavía querían escoger un método que les hiciera depender en Dios. Tal vez se recordaron de Proverbios 16:33: La suerte se echa en el regazo; Mas de Jehová es la decisión de ella.
Algunos insisten que Matías fue la elección equivocada y que el uso de suertes para hacer la decisión no fue correcto. La idea es que Dios eventualmente habría escogido a Pablo si el oficio de Judas hubiera quedado disponible. Pero debemos respetar el testimonio de las Escrituras; Dios no quiso que el oficio permaneciera libre. Si hubiera permanecido sin llenar, podría verse como una victoria para Satanás; hubiese sido como si Jesús escogiera a 12, pero uno quedó corto y por lo tanto Satanás derrotó el deseo de Jesús de tener 12 apóstoles.
En cuanto a Pablo, claramente se consideraba a sí mismo un apóstol, pero uno nacido fuera de tiempo (1 Corintios 15:8). No parece que Pablo se opusiera a la selección de Matías.
Echar suertes puede ser una forma imperfecta de discernir la voluntad de Dios, pero es mucho mejor que algunos métodos que muchos cristianos usan hoy en día para tomar grandes decisiones:
– Dependen de sus emociones.
– Dependen de las circunstancias.
– Dependen de los sentimientos.
– Dependen de los deseos carnales.
¡Sería mejor tirar los dados y confiar en Dios por los resultados!
Al final de todo, Matías fue contado con los once apóstoles. Yo creo que Dios los guió a la decisión correcta y también nos guiará a nosotros cuando le obedecemos, buscamos las Escrituras, oramos y confiamos en Él. ¡Hazlo hoy!
