They Had Been with Jesus
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. (Acts 4:13)
Peter and John stood before the council of religious leaders. The powerful men saw the boldness of Peter and John, but they also noticed something else – that they were uneducated and untrained men.
Peter and John were certainly uneducated in one sense – they, like Jesus before them, had no formal rabbinic education according to the customs and standards of that time. Yet they were educated in at least two more important ways: they knew the Scriptures, and they had been with Jesus.
That kind of education was more important than the customs and standards of their time. The truth that knowing the Bible and a real relationship with Jesus is more important that formal education and degrees has been proven in the lives of God’s servants again and again. It has been proven true through such servants of God as Charles Spurgeon, D.L. Moody, William Carey, D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, and Hudson Taylor.
Yet it is helpful to remember that God has also used many who were greatly educated. Moses, Daniel, and Paul are all Biblical examples. Augustine, Martin Luther, and Billy Graham are just a few historical examples. It’s just as wrong to think that formal education disqualifies someone for effective service as it is to think that it automatically qualifies someone for effective service.
In Acts 4, the boldness of Peter and John came from the fact that they had been with Jesus, they were naturally bold. When one is a servant of the all-powerful God, he has nothing to fear from the judgment of men.
It is interesting to note what the Jewish leaders did not do: they did not make any attempt to disprove the resurrection of Jesus. If it were possible to do, this was the time to do it. Positive proof that Jesus had not actually risen from the dead would have crushed the early Christian movement. Yet these religious leaders could not disprove the fact of the resurrection.
They realized that they had been with Jesus: This means that the bold exclusivism of Acts 4:12 was coupled with a radiant love characteristic of Jesus. If we will preach no other name we should also make it evident that we have been with Jesus.
Sadly, when Christians became strong and powerful, and when Christianity became an institution – too often Christians were those who arrested people and told them to be quiet, threatening them with violence and sometimes carrying it out against them. That is not evidence that one has been with Jesus.
People should go to Jesus directly, but often they won’t. The only Jesus they will see is the Savior who shines through our life. God helping you, today live in such a way that it will be obvious that you have also been with Jesus.
Kein anderer Name
Und es ist in keinem anderen das Heil; denn es ist kein anderer Name unter dem Himmel den Menschen gegeben, in dem wir gerettet werden sollen! (Apostelgeschichte 4,12)
Es war eine mutige Predigt von Petrus. Er sprach zu den mächtigsten Männern des Staates und sagte ihnen, dass Jesus Christus der einzige Weg zur Erlösung ist, der einzige Weg, um mit Gott ins Reine zu kommen.
Der Heilige Geist hatte eine bemerkenswerte Verwandlung in Petrus vorgenommen. Derselbe Mann, der nur wenige Wochen zuvor Angst davor hatte auch nur zu sagen, dass er Jesus kannte, verkündigte nun, dass Jesus Christus der einzige Weg war, um mit Gott ins Reine zu kommen. Weil er mit dem Heiligen Geist gefüllt war (Apostelgeschichte 4,8), hatte Petrus keinen Geist der Furcht – er hatte den Geist der Macht und der Liebe und einen klaren Verstand (2. Timotheus 1,7).
Durch den Heiligen Geist inspiriert betonte Petrus folgendes:
- Es gibt keine Errettung in irgendeinem anderen Namen als Jesus (Und es ist in keinem anderen das Heil)
- Es gibt absolut keinen anderen Namen, der retten kann (denn es ist kein anderer Name unter dem Himmel den Menschen gegeben)
- es ist erforderlich, dass wir mit Gott ins Reine kommen (in dem wir gerettet werden sollen)
Die Welt hasst diese Art von Reden. Vielen Leuten macht es nichts aus, wenn du von Jesus als einen von vielen Wegen redest, um zu Gott zu kommen. Aber wenn du glaubst und sprichst, was die Bibel sagt – dass es in keinem anderen das Heil gibt – dann wirst du ausgelacht, gehasst und missachtet.
Viele reagieren instinktiv: „Gibt es irgendeinen Weg, wie ich mich selber retten kann? Ist Jesus nicht für solche, die sich nicht selber retten können?“ Nein. Wenn du errettet werden willst, wenn du mit Gott ins Reine kommen willst, dann wird Jesus das machen.
Diese starke Aussage von Petrus zeigt uns auch, dass er verstanden hatte, das Jesus in der Tat Gott war. Das Alte Testament sagt deutlich, dass Gott der einzige Retter ist (Jesaja 43,11 und 45,21). Wenn Jesus der einzige Retter ist, dann ist Jesus Gott!
Wenn du dir wünschst, dass jeder errettet wird, oder dass es viele Wege in den Himmel gibt, oder dass man das Beste eines jeden Glaubens nehmen kann und das miteinander vermischt – dann kannst du das tun. Du kannst solche Dinge glauben und musst dann die Konsequenzen tragen; aber behaupte nicht das sei die Lehre der Bibel.
Erinnere dich heute an das, was die Bibel über den Namen Jesus sagt: denn es ist kein anderer Name unter dem Himmel den Menschen gegeben, in dem wir gerettet werden sollen.
No hay otro nombre
Y en ningún otro hay salvación; porque no hay otro nombre bajo el cielo, dado a los hombres, en que podamos ser salvos (Hechos 4:12).
Aquí estaba la audaz predicación de Pedro. Habló con los hombres más poderosos de su comunidad y les dijo que Jesucristo era el único camino a la salvación, el único camino para estar bien con Dios.
Esto muestra la notable transformación que el Espíritu Santo hizo en Pedro. El mismo hombre que solo unas pocas semanas antes temía incluso decir que conocía a Jesús, ahora proclamaba a Jesucristo como la única forma de ser justificado con Dios. Como estaba lleno del Espíritu Santo (Hechos 4: 8), Pedro no tenía un espíritu de cobardía – tenía el espíritu de poder, amor y dominio propio (2 Timoteo 1: 7).
Inspirado por el Espíritu Santo, Pedro expresó esto con gran énfasis:
– No hay salvación en ningún otro nombre que no sea Jesús (Y en ningún otro hay salvación)
– No hay absolutamente ningún otro nombre que pueda salvar (porque no hay otro nombre bajo el cielo, dado a los hombres)
– Este es “indispensable” para la salvación, ser justificados con Dios (en que podamos ser salvos)
Pedro no solo proclamó a Jesús como un camino de salvación, sino como el único camino de salvación. La idea de que en ningún otro hay salvación, y que no hay otro nombre bajo el cielo, dado a los hombres, en que podamos ser salvos es difícil de aceptar para muchas personas – pero se expresa claramente.
. El mundo odia este tipo de conversación. A muchas personas no les importa si hablas de que Jesús es uno de los muchos posibles salvadores o caminos hacia Dios. Pero si crees y dices lo que dice la Biblia – que en ningún otro hay salvación – entonces prepárate para que se rían de ti, para que te odien, para que te consideren odioso.
Instintivamente, muchos responden: “¿No hay alguna forma de salvarme a mí mismo? ¿No es Jesús solo para aquellas personas que no pueden salvarse a sí mismas? ” No. Si alguien te va a rescatar; si alguien te hará estar bien delante de Dios, ese será Jesús.
Una declaración tan contundente de Pedro también muestra que él entendía que Jesús era realmente Dios. El Antiguo Testamento dice claramente que Dios es el único Salvador (Isaías 43:11, 45:21). Si Jesús es el único salvador, ¡entonces Jesús es Dios!
Si deseas creer que todos serán salvos, o que hay muchos caminos al cielo, o que uno puede tomar lo mejor de las creencias y combinarlas en una sola – eres libre de creer tales cosas. Puedes creer tales cosas y aguantar las consecuencias; pero, por favor, no afirmes que esta es la enseñanza de la Biblia.
Hoy, recuerda lo que dice la Biblia sobre el nombre de Jesús: no hay otro nombre bajo el cielo, dado a los hombres, en que podamos ser salvos.
