Is Energy Reading A Biblical Practice?

Q: A Christian friend recommended a holistic practitioner who claimed to diagnose and treat me over the phone by reading my energy and prescribing rituals with salt and stones. I felt convicted that this crossed into something spiritually dangerous and walked away. But my friend believes God has given her a green light to continue these practices and even involve her children. Biblically speaking, do practices like kinesiology, energy reading and remote healing cross into divination or forbidden spiritual territory?

A: I think you did the right thing. Please know that by someone saying that they can diagnose and treat me over the phone by reading my energy and prescribing rituals with salt and stones, this has nothing to do with Christianity. Energy reading is not Christian. It’s a weird attempt to meld Christianity with New Age practices. Nobody can read your energy over the phone in any legitimate way. And if they could, they would be doing it by the powers of darkness, not by the powers of light. This has nothing to do with any kind of Christian practice.

God bless you. Praise the Lord that you felt convicted that this was crossing the line into something spiritually dangerous and you walked away. You’re absolutely right. That’s good. In the most positive light, I could say that your may friend have good intentions, but they are seriously deceived or misguided. God has not given her a green light to this. It’s not the Lord who is encouraging her to carry on this practice. I’m very sad to read that she involves her children in these practices.

I do want to add one more thing about kinesiology. Listen, I’m no medical practitioner, but I am under the impression that kinesiology is a legitimate medical practice about how bones and joints move. I do not think kinesiology belongs in a group with energy reading and the like. Energy reading and remote healing have no place in the Christian world. Just say no to that stuff. It would be like a Christian saying that they could give you guidance through tarot cards. No. God has given us His Word. God has given us His Holy Spirit. And it is His Holy Spirit, not a profane or dark spirit. Your instincts are great on this. God bless you, and I pray that the Lord continues to guide you along the way.
