David Guzik Sermons on 2 Timothy
Video and Audio Teaching Through 2 Timothy
Introduction
2 Timothy is the Apostle Paul’s dramatic letter from a Roman prison to his younger associate Timothy. Paul knew that it might be any day that he was executed for his loyalty to Jesus Christ, so he wrote to Timothy about important and needful matters.
2 Timothy is Paul’s Last Letter
In this chapter-by-chapter teaching through the book of 2 Timothy, David Guzik explains the major themes of the books and gives practical application from a verse-by-verse look at what the Bible says.
2 Timothy is part of the letters of the New Testament sometimes called the Pastoral Epistles (or letters). This is because 1-2 Timothy and Titus were all letters that Paul wrote to pastors or leaders in the early church. However, God has something important to say to all believers through these letters.
About the Man Timothy
The Book of Acts tells us that Timothy came from Lystra, a city in the province of Galatia (16:1-3). He was the son of a Greek father (16:2) and a Jewish mother named Eunice (2 Timothy 2:5). His mother and grandmother taught him the Scriptures from the time of Timothy’s youth (2 Timothy 1:5; 3:15).
Paul could consider Timothy a true son in the faith because he probably led him and his mother to faith in Jesus on Paul’s first missionary journey (Acts 14:8-20 and 16:1). This also expressed Paul’s confidence in Timothy’s integrity and faithfulness to the truth.
