How Do I Respond To Believers Who Think The Bible Is Allegorical?
Q: How do I respond to a believer who thinks Job is only allegorical because they don't believe God shakes hands with Satan to do harm to people?
A: I would suggest that you start by not deciding what the Bible says before you read it. Just read the Bible and let it tell you what it says.
I don't understand how people can read something in the Bible that specifically describes who God is and what He does, and then say, 'Well, I don’t think God is like that.' Who cares what you think? What matters is what God has revealed Himself to be. He has revealed Himself in creation, in conscience, and most importantly, in His Word.
It’s not our job to make God in our own image. When we decide what we think God is like, we are just creating a version of God that suits us. That’s what I would object to when speaking with that person.
