What Is The Minimal Knowledge A Christian Should Have?
Q: What is the minimal knowledge I should have as a Christian, and how do I balance childlike faith with growing in knowledge?
A: You can put your trust in Jesus Christ with the simple knowledge of your need and God's provision in the person and work of Jesus Christ. I think that is enough to enter into a real relationship of faith.
However, we are called to be as little children, and we are also called to maturity. Most kids want to grow up; they are proud of growing up. When you tell a child, 'Wow, you're a big boy. You're a big girl,' they like that. They don't want to be like the little babies; they want to grow up.
I think that's how the two harmonize. We should keep the heart of a child, the simplicity of a child, and the humility of a child. Those are admirable qualities that Jesus noticed in children. However, tied to that, children also want to get bigger, to grow, and to mature, and so should we.
