Do Genesis 12:3 And Numbers 24:9 Refer To The Modern State Of Israel?
Q: Do Genesis 12:3 And Numbers 24:9 Refer To The Modern State Of Israel?
Genesis 12:3 – I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.
Numbers 24:9b – Blessed is he who blesses you, and cursed is he who curses you.
The Jewish people on the earth today are largely the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, those with whom God made the Abrahamic covenant we read about in these verses. The modern State of Israel is a nation founded to be a nation for that people group, who still have an enduring place in God’s unfolding plan of the ages.
There are some people who think that the Jewish people have been exterminated. There are some who think that they don’t exist, and that God exterminated them in His judgment. I don’t agree with that at all. I think that is wrong for both biblical and genetic, scientific reasons.
I believe that the Jewish people have an enduring role in God’s unfolding plan of the ages, and that eventually the Jewish people will be brought to faith in Jesus Christ. As Paul wrote, “All Israel will be saved.” And that is far from the only place in the Scriptures which talks about this great eventual turning of the Jewish people to faith in their Messiah. But it will happen.
The modern state of Israel, as a state which has been consciously founded as a nation for the Jewish people, is not exclusively Jewish. They have a large Arab population and other populations as well. But it is predominantly a Jewish nation, and the Jewish people are those who are the inheritors of the covenant that God made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
