If I’m Not A Pastor Or Evangelist, Am I A Lukewarm Christian?
Q: How can someone discern whether they are a “lukewarm” Christian, especially if they feel that only pastors or evangelists are truly on fire for God?
A: No, you don’t need to do those things, not unless you’re gifted. If God has gifted and called you, then fulfill that call. Twice in the New Testament, once to Timothy and once to Archippus, Paul wrote, “Fulfill your ministry.”
I don’t know what ministry God has given and enabled you to do. You should seek Him about it. Maybe it’s a ministry of being a tremendous worker and presence for the Lord in your workplace, or in your family or neighborhood, and He wants you to take a real kingdom purpose to that. Maybe it’s at a local soup kitchen. Maybe it’s some prayer work or evangelism, or something else. Whatever God calls you to do, embrace it seriously. Embrace it with all your heart, as a co-laborer with Christ and fulfill your ministry. You don’t have to fulfill my ministry, or some evangelist’s ministry, or anybody else’s ministry. You only need to fulfill your ministry, which God has given you in the Lord.
Can God call somebody to be a car mechanic? Absolutely, and if they do it, they should do it for God’s glor. They should realize that if they’re an honest, trustworthy, good mechanic, then they are making a positive contribution to God’s kingdom and to this world. I don’t have a good regular mechanic right now, but before he moved away, I had the best mechanic, this wonderful guy from my local church. We need more sold-out Christian lawyers, salespeople, fast food workers, and believers in every job sector. We need more of those. But especially, I need a new mechanic.
