Was Charlie Kirk A Martyr?
Some say Charlie was a martyr. Pastor David, what are your thoughts on that? Would you consider him a martyr?
I do think you could call him that. Charlie Kirk’s most controversial positions were not primarily political. You could call them cultural, but if you really want to get technical, you could say they were anthropological. They concerned the nature of man, especially concerning sexuality, gender identification, and sexual practices. His positions and his own conscience before God were very much based on his Christian faith. And he died as a result of those things. He was murdered, assassinated because he was such an effective spokesman for those things. Much of the world called his viewpoints “hate.” I don’t see that at all.
In the earliest days of Christianity, Christians were accused of being haters of mankind. That was one of the libels or slanders focused against Christians in the early days, simply because they didn’t approve of everything that the world did. They were called haters of mankind. In that same spirit, Charlie Kirk was called a hater of mankind because of what he stood for in his Christian faith.
Could you point to people in history who were more dramatic or obvious martyrs than Charlie Kirk? Yes, I think you could. But because Charlie Kirk died directly because of his Christian faith, I don’t have a problem at all saying that he was a martyr.
