Can I Pray For God To Destroy Someone Who Is Hurting Me?
- If you’re angry at somebody and you want to see them destroyed, the best thing you can do with that anger is to bring it to God and leave it in His hands.
- There are people who need the discipline or the opposition of God. In those cases, it’s a positive thing for us to take those feelings – even if they’re true and righteous – before the Lord and to leave the matter in His hands.
- The best way to destroy my enemy is to make him my friend and my brother.
Is it okay to pray for God to destroy someone who refuses to stop committing evil actions against you? Is it wrong to ask God to delay no longer in pouring out His wrath and torment and torment on them personally?
Yes, but allow me to explain. If you’re angry at somebody and you want to see them destroyed, the best thing you can do with that anger is to bring it to God and leave it in His hands. That’s an entirely positive thing. That’s the pattern we see in the imprecatory Psalms, where we read things like, “Break their teeth in their mouth, O God.”
Ideally, God will work such a work of Christian love and compassion in you, that you have a more generous heart, even towards your enemies. Nevertheless, there are people who need to be judged in this world. There are people who need the discipline or the opposition of God. In those cases, it’s a positive thing for us to take those feelings – even if they’re true and righteous – before the Lord and to leave the matter in His hands.
Remember the verse, “‘Vengeance is Mine’, says the Lord.” You’re doing the right thing with those feelings by taking them to the Lord in prayer. As you continue to do so, God may even give you a more generous heart towards those people. Even if He does not, you’re doing the right thing with those feelings. You’re taking them to the Lord. I once heard someone say that the sweetest revenge on an enemy is to see them repent and be reconciled to you. The best way to destroy my enemy is to make him my friend and my brother.
