Missionaries David and Inga-Lill Guzik
Serving in Germany with Calvary Chapel Bible College
"We've had a heart for Europe and the world for a long time," say
David and Inga-Lill Guzik. It's no wonder - since they are a cross-cultural family, with David raised in Southern
California and Inga-Lill raised in Sweden. "We've kept an open heart
through the years, and have often prayed "God, if you want us to go, we
will."
David and Inga-Lill were each raised in good homes but still had to come to a
personal commitment to Jesus Christ while in their teens. Though raised on
different continents, they both grew up with a desire to serve God. This desire
led them on different paths to the same place - to Calvary Chapel Bible School
in Twin Peaks, California (in the San Bernadino Mountains near Lake Arrowhead).
Though it was only an 11 week program, it made a lasting impact on David and
Inga-Lill's lives. After their introduction at Bible School they stayed in
contact, the relationship grew, and two years later they were married.
After 20 years for pastoral ministry in Southern California the call came to
David and Inga-Lill - clearly and repeatedly. David has long had a heart to
serve and equip leaders - his popular Bible commentaries are widely used in
print, CD-ROM, and over the Internet. The call to Europe continues this ministry
of serving and equipping. David left the pastorate of Calvary Chapel of Simi
Valley in January of 2003, and became the director of Calvary Chapel Bible
College Germany. In July of that year the whole family moved to Germany. It's
huge job to move a family with three kids to Europe, but God has provided and
blessed each step of the way. The Guzik kids are Aan-Sofie (born in 1986),
Nathan (born in 1987), and Jonathan (born in 1991).
David and Inga-Lill love their work with Calvary Chapel Bible College
Germany. The school began with the vision of Pastor Nick Long and the leadership
of Calvary Chapel of Siegen, the first Calvary Chapel church in Europe. David
works closely with Pastor Nick in seeking God's direction for the school. The
first semester started in February of 2003 with 29 students - 22 from the USA, 5
from Germany, and 2 from Brazil. The second semester, starting in September of
2003, had 33 students (13 from Germany, 1 from Holland, 1 from Ireland, 1 from
Peru and 17 from the USA). In addition, we have more than a 100 visitors from
the community attending our Monday evening Daniel class, and more have been able
to attend special seminar classes. "We're excited about both what God is
doing right now and about the future," says David. "We think God wants
the Bible College to continue to grow and train up leaders for the work here in
Europe, to train church planters, and to give a lasting heart for missions. We
also like the mix of Europeans and Americans at the Bible College. It makes for
a great spiritual and educational environment."
The boys are in German speaking school and are taking on the challenge well.
Aan-Sofie attends classes at the Bible College and manages the Coffee Bar. The
whole family lives in Siegen in a great neighborhood called Kaan-Marienborn.
We're grateful to God for what He has done - and promises to do. Here are
some ongoing prayer requests:
- Effective ministry for the Bible College, both now and in the future
- Helping the Guzik family with learning German well enough to both converse
and do ministry in German
- Continued financial support, enough to support the family and travel to
encourage pastors and congregations around Europe
